Sabarimala Temple, located in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India, is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, attracting over 1 million devotees each year. The pilgrimage involves challenging treks through the forest to reach the temple, which has 18 sacred steps leading to the shrine of Lord Ayyappa. During the Sabarimala season, devotees can experience two major festivals: Mandalapooja and Makaravilakku. Pilgrimage starts from the 1st of Vrichikam, a Malayalam month that falls between November 14 and 17. The most significant day is Makarasankranti, which is the 1st of Makara, and will be observed between January 14 and 16.
