Nearest Airport to Munnar: Cochin, Coimbatore & Madurai Compared

Munnar does not have its own airport, so there is no “Munnar airport code”. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport (COK) at Nedumbassery, about 105–115 km away by road. Which Airport Should You Choose?

Cochin International Airport (COK): the best choice for most travellers

Cochin is the closest airport with the most flights. It handles domestic flights at Terminal 1 and international flights at Terminal 3, so travellers from the Gulf, Singapore and major Indian cities can usually fly in directly. From the airport, the drive to Munnar follows the main highway through Perumbavoor, Kothamangalam and Adimali before climbing through the tea estates. Coimbatore (CJB) and Madurai (IXM): useful from Tamil Nadu

If you are already in Tamil Nadu, or flights to Cochin are full, Coimbatore and Madurai are practical alternatives. The road from Coimbatore climbs into Munnar from the east via Udumalpet and Marayoor, while the Madurai side enters through the Bodimettu ghat. Both routes are scenic but have long hill sections, so plan to arrive in daylight.

Trivandrum (TRV): only if you are touring the south first

Trivandrum is much further away. It makes sense only if you plan to visit Kovalam, Trivandrum or Kanyakumari before heading up to the hills.

Cochin Airport to Munnar by Taxi

A pre-booked taxi is the simplest way to reach Munnar after a flight: the driver meets you at the arrival area, loads your luggage and drives straight up to your hotel. There is no direct train or flight to Munnar, and buses need at least one change.

• Share your flight number when you book, so the pickup moves with early or delayed flights.
• Plan to reach Munnar before dark if you can. The last stretch is a winding ghat road.
• Stop for food in the plains around Kothamangalam before the hill section starts.

Nearest Railway Stations to Munnar

Munnar has no railway line either. The nearest major stations are Aluva (about 110 km) and Ernakulam Junction (about 125 km). Most long-distance trains stop at both. A taxi from Aluva saves around 30 minutes compared with starting in Ernakulam.
